Deep Tissue Massage is a therapeutic approach that targets deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Unlike Swedish massage, which primarily addresses superficial soft tissues, deep tissue techniques are used to assess and address areas of muscular tension, restricted mobility, and soft-tissue dysfunction.
Effective deep tissue work requires a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and musculoskeletal relationships. The therapist may incorporate a variety of techniques, including myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and muscle energy techniques, based on the client’s presentation and treatment goals.
These techniques may be used to address muscular restrictions and adhesions associated with injury, repetitive use, prolonged postural stress, or biomechanical imbalances. Pressure and depth are individualized according to the client’s tissue response, tolerance, and clinical needs.
Deep Tissue Massage may be utilized as part of a therapeutic treatment plan to promote soft-tissue mobility, reduce muscular tension, and support functional movement. It may also be appropriate for general relaxation when deeper, more focused work is desired.
